چکیده
This review deals with applications of activation analysis to geological samples : , minerals and rocks . The various activation sources suitable for tb.is purpose are discussed. Applications using isotopic neutron sources are reviewed in some detail , those using neutron generators are discussed on a rrore general basis . Present trends in instrumental neutron-activation techniques are briefly indicated, in particular Ge (Li) garrrna-ray spectranetry, coincidence counting, delayed neutron counting , proirt garrina counting ars observation of nuclear tracks. The application of photon and charged particle activation to geological sarrles is also considered.

Normative calculation of mineral composition in Cr ores of the ophiolite complexes from SE Iran
Specific elements (Cr, Al, Ca, and Si) and loss on ignition (LOI) were used for semi-quantitative determination of the normative mineralogical composition of naturally occurring chromium ores in ophiolite complexes. By far the occurring ore minerals are complex both from the mineralogical and chemical viewpoints. The secondary minerals serpentine and Cr-containing chlorite (kaemmererite) form n...
متن کاملMineralogical and geochemical investigations of chromite ores from ophiolite complexes of SE Iran in terms of chrome spinel composition
Ten chromite ores from ophiolite complexes in SE Iran were analyzed mineralogically by XRD, chemically by XRF, and mineral chemistry by EPMA. The identified paragenesis of silicate minerals of chromite ores with the X-ray diffraction is pronounced differently. It consists of secondary phases formed as serpentine, Cr-containing chlorite (kaemmererite), chromic garnet (uarovite) with preserved pa...
متن کاملMineralogy and chemical variations of Sulfosalts of epithermal deposit of Ay-Qalasi (southeast of Takab, northwest of Iran)
The Ay Qalasi Pb-Zn (Ag) epithermal deposit is located in the south east of Takab, northwest of Iran and is formd at the Urmia-Dokhtar magmatic belt and the Sanandaj-Sirjan zone intersection. Based on microscopic and EPMA analysis, the composition of this series is tennantite-tetrahedrite. These minerals are mainly replaced in host minerals. The EPMA analysis data show that their chemical compo...

The Gazanjeh bauxite deposit (SE Mahabad, West-Azarbaidjan province) is a typical residual sedimentary deposit with dolomitic limestone host rock of Permian age in northwestern Iran. Calculations of normative values of minerals using obtained results from XRD and XRF analyses in a selected profile indicate that diaspore, hematite, and pyrophyllite were major mineralogical phases of this deposit...
متن کاملMineral resources and geo-engineering
Metals used in everyday life are produced from ores occurring in the Earth’s crust. Geological processes are known to concentrate minerals to form ores of economic value. Mineral processing engineers concentrate these ores by mechanical and physico-chemical methods while the extractive metallurgist extracts the metals by chemical means.
